Another report of fraud in name of PM housing scheme

With one more case of bluff pulled in the name of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna scheme reported at Cyber Cell of Lucknow Police on April 17, the toll has now reached to 16 complaints. According to the complainant, Aliganj resident Radhey Raman Shukla, he had gone to withdraw money from his bank at Kapoorthala where he spotted a stall with PMAY banners and pamphlets offering registration for flats for Rs 25 to be paid by debit card.

The representatives made him swipe his card for Rs 25 but when there was no message for the transaction, he was told there must be some network issue. Next morning, Rs 10,000 got deducted from his account. Aliganj police station officer Arun Singh said assistance of the STF has been sought for speedy enquiry into this case. Officials of the cyber-cell told TOI that so far 16 complaints related to PMAY had been received out of which nine cases were of transaction from different ATMs in Noida. Teams have been sent out to probe.

Cyber-Cell sub-inspector V S Sirohi said it seemed to be the handiwork of a gang that will be traced soon. Sirohi also said a ‘skimmer device’ has been used for the fraud and added that so far 543 cases of cyber fraud had been reported in 2017 out of which 80 cases were of card cloning, mostly in March.Source: Economic Times, Lucknow
